Firewood
The winters in New England are cold and snowy, there is little that can be argued against this. Those of us who embrace the winter find a few luxuries that exist only this time of year. One of those is a warm, crackling fire. It could be nights by the fireplace while enjoying your favorite drink and enjoying good company, or some of us using a fire for keeping our oil bills down and heating your home or business. In either case we have your firewood supply taken care of. Black Diamond started in the firewood supply business in the fall of 2009 after realizing the source and availability of a quality product can be difficult to obtain through the winter season. As a consumer for firewood to heat our own equipment garages, we understand the need to have clean, spit, and seasoned product whenever the cold weather arrives. Our wood is either seasoned or kiln-dried, split and cut into manageable pieces, and always delivered and or stacked by courteous and responsible drivers.
Our goal is to provide a quality firewood source for consumers and home owners that will have either seasoned or kiln-dried wood available for delivery whenever you need it, from early fall to late spring. We promise to have whatever wood you need, all season long. The winters are long and cold, here at Black Diamond Landscapes, we want to help you enjoy the other side of summer.
The two types of wood that we sell at Black Diamond Landscapes are seasoned and kiln-dried. While both products are high quality in their own right, it is important to understand the differences between the two. Delivery is available for either product, in multiple cords, half, quarter and eighth cord intervals. The wood consists of all hardwoods, including oak, maple, birch, ash, beech and cherry.
Seasoned
Seasoned firewood is wood that has been cut to 14” to 16” lengths and splint into pieces of wood that can be handled with ease. The seasoning process is what allows wood to burn clean and efficiently in your wood stove or fireplace. The process takes between 8-12 months depending on the sunlight conditions on the pile, air circulation around the pile and rotation of the pile during the seasoning process. The moisture content at he end of seasoning is around 20%, it may vary depending on the source. Once the seasoned wood has been cut and split for 8-12 months, it is delivered to us so we can provide it for you. Seasoned wood will appear to be gray in color in some cases which I evidence of a correct seasoning process. It may also be lacking bark, which is called “ naked wood”, this debarking process allows better drying, cleaner wood and less change of seeing a bug here or there. Seasoned is the most common type of wood on the market and is available all winter long, it is stored outside and may have some snow or surface moisture on it, depending on the weather. This will quickly dry off once under cover or brought into your home, once dry, it does not affect the quality of the wood.
Kiln Dried
Kiln-dried firewood is wood that has been also been cut into 14” to 16” lengths, split, and then oven dried in kiln-ovens for 2-5 days. The moisture content of this wood is less than 20% and may feel lighter than seasoned wood, due to the lack of moisture inside. The wood that is used in this process may only be harvested and processed for several weeks, but because of the drying process, it can be from forest to doorstep in only a few weeks. Most kiln-dried wood is “naked”, to speed up the drying process in the kilns, and is available in the same quantities as seasoned wood. Kiln dried wood burns slightly hotter and faster than seasoned, does not contain any bugs, is typically cleaner and slightly more expensive than seasoned wood. It is available all year long.
Delivery and Stacking
All of our firewood products are available for delivery all year long. Our courteous and responsible drivers are able to provide your home or business with the type and quantity of wood that you desire, with only a days notice during the winter season and several days notice during the remainder of the year. Our trucks are between 8 and 9 feet wide and can unload your wood in most places, but we prefer a solid driveway or grassy area. Delivery is available Monday through Saturday from April through December and 7 days a week during the winter months. Most local delivery is free, but a additional charge will apply for deliveries away from the local Arlington area.
Along with our drivers, our crews can take all the hard work out of your firewood process. We can stack your wood where ever you would like, from inside the garage to a 3rd floor condo, show us the spot and we can accommodate it. We will be happy to stack wood of any increments, however, additional notice is needed and additional costs will apply based on the amount and location of the stack.
